Law Students Help Promote Literacy

Students, faculty, and alumni of the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law are showing their commitment to the school’s core value of public service through their support of the local Volunteers in Public Schools (ViPS) Jane Mendel Reading Day.

The Little Rock School District has planned the event for Nov. 16. Bowen community members will read to classes at Rockefeller Elementary School – the law school’s neighborhood elementary – in order to promote literacy.

Associate Dean and Law Library Director June Stewart and Professor Jessie Burchfield serve on the Lawyers for Literacy Committee of the Arkansas Bar Association this year. The local Jane Mendel Reading Day is one of many events planned to promote literacy across the state.

Law school student organizations, faculty members, and staff have volunteered at Rockefeller since the early 1990s. For more information on the program, contact Burchfield at jwburchfield@ualr.edu.
