Instructor Elected President of Mathematics Council
UALR mathematics instructor Tracy Watson has been elected president of the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) to serve a two-year term.
She will head the non-profit organization whose mission is “to provide vision and leadership in improving the teaching and learning of mathematics so that every student is ensured of an equitable standards-based mathematics education and every teacher of mathematics is ensured the opportunity to grow professionally.”
The organization supports regional and state mathematics contests for Arkansas students enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, PreCalculus, Statistics, and Calculus.
For teachers, ACTM sponsors two major professional development events for mathematics teachers every year – the Arkansas Curriculum Conference and Teachers Teaching with Technology Regional Conference.
