Grammy Winner Performs at Artspree
Artspree, UALR’s performance series, will present 2001 Grammy Award violinist Mark O’Connor at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the University Theatre in UALR’s Center for Performing Arts.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for UALR faculty and staff, free for UALR students, and $10 for non-UALR students.
O’Connor will also present a lecture and demonstration at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, followed by a master class at 3 p.m.
Currently an artist-in-residence at the University of Miami, O’Connor won a Grammy for his 2001 CD, “Appalachian Journey,” a follow-up to his first recording “Appalachia Waltz,” in collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer, on the Sony Classical record label.

O’Connor”s most recent album, “Jam Session,” from April 2010, consists of live acoustic recordings which combine bluegrass and gypsy jazz and features musicians Chris Thile, Frank Vignola, Bryan Sutton, Jon Burr, and Byron House.
He is also the founder and president of the internationally recognized Mark O’Connor String Camp, which is held each summer at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., and at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
