The Laser Law Firm of Little Rock has established an endowed scholarship at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in honor of the firm’s late founder, Sam Laser.

Laser, who had been UALR’s oldest living letterman, died on Oct. 21, 2010, at the age of 90.

Prior to his death, Laser established an estate gift to endow a scholarship in the Department of Athletics. After his death, Laser’s firm established the Sam Laser Endowed Memorial Scholarship at the Bowen School of Law to recognize the lawyer’s outstanding contribution to the legal community.

“Mr. Laser’s dedication to his alma mater is inspiring,” said Bowen’s Assistant Dean for External Relations Wanda G. Hoover. “His firm’s commitment to sharing that dedication will help worthy students continue that example through their work in the legal community.”

Born in Clarksville in 1919, Laser graduated from Little Rock Junior College &#151now UALR&#151 in 1939 where he was captain of the LRJC’s Trojan basketball team. He completed his juris doctorate at the University of Arkansas Law School in 1941.

Since founding the Laser Law Firm in 1952, he has been included in the legal publication “The Best Lawyers in America – Personal Injury Litigation (defendants),” and perennially included in the Arkansas Times newspaper polls of Best Lawyers in Arkansas (civil defense).

He was a member of the Federation of Insurance Counsel and Defense Research Institute. Laser was the recipient of the 2003 and 2004 Outstanding Lawyer Award given by the Arkansas Bar Foundation and the 2010 Sidney McMath Award given by his peers in the Pulaski County Bar Association.

Laser is survived by his wife Anne, 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
