Update: Shooting at UALR

UALR Director of Public Safety Brad King issued the following statement Friday, May 6, regarding a shooting outside East Residence Hall earlier in the morning:

At 2:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, the University Police received a call that a person had been shot in front of East Hall.  When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a male that had been shot in the hip. The injuries were reported to be non life-threatening.

MEMS responded to the scene and took the victim to UAMS.  The victim told responding officers he had been shot by a person that he had been in an altercation with earlier that evening at a local nightclub.  The victim was not a current UALR student.

Video cameras in front of East Hall recorded images of the suspect.  Further investigation by UALR detectives resulted in the suspect being identified.  The suspect is not a student and has no apparent connection to the university.  The investigation is ongoing.
