Ottenheimer Recognized for Public Service
The U.S. Government Printing Office has recognized Ottenheimer Library and Government Documents Librarian Karen Russ for “their excellence in promotion, education, and service to the public” in the January issue of FDLP Desktop, the official source for the Federal Depository Library Program.
“UALR’s Ottenheimer Library excels in promotion of U.S. Government information resources and in networking with other libraries,” the GPO said.
“The library makes vital connections with students, the public, and staff at other libraries that promote depository usage and help explain the value of the library’s participation in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and its depository resources. This ultimately enhances access and services within Ottenheimer Library as well as in the state and beyond.”
As a participant in the Federal Depository Library Program, Ottenheimer Library serves as an official depository for United States federal government publications, collecting approximately 37 percent of the materials produced by the Government Printing Office.
Created by Congress in 1813, the FDLP provides an information distribution system of government publications to more than 1,250 libraries located in the 50 states and territories of the United States. Depository libraries support the public’s right to government information by collecting, organizing, preserving and providing assistance in the use of this information.
