50 Free Dates for Valentine’s Day
Who has time to find a unique Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone? With the holiday right around the corner, thousands of non-traditional UALR students juggling school, jobs, children, and/or other responsibilities may be asking themselves this question.
This Valentine’s Day, UALR’s Non-Traditional Student Programs and Sodexo Dining Services have an answer. They are offering an afternoon of fun at a Valentine’s Day cooking class with Chef Sebastian followed by dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Donaghey Student Center Ledbetter Room C.
Fifty UALR non-traditional students and their dates will be treated to a hands-on cooking class in the UALR kitchen to learn how to prepare a menu of chateaubriand, potato baskets, asparagus bundles, nicoise salad, and for dessert, chocolate-cherry crepes.
The cost? Free for 50 non-traditional students and their special someone.
Reservations are required. RSVP by sending an email to Non-Traditional Student Programs.
Cynda Alexander, coordinator of UALR’s Non-Traditional Student Programs in the Office of Campus Life, said the university’s definition of a non-traditional student has changed in recent years.
“Usually, a non-traditional student was someone age 25 and up,” she said. “Now, if you are a parent, a member of the military, delayed enrollment after high school, a first generation (college student), or if you are financially independent for purposes of determining financial aid, you are considered to be a non-traditional student.”
No tracking mechanism has been put in place to count the exact number of UALR students considered non-traditional, but Alexander said her program has more than 4,000 students who fit this category.
