Law Groups Sponsor Same-Sex Debate
A civil rights attorney and a representative of the National Organization for Marriage’s Ruth Institute will debate the issue of same-sex marriage at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Friday Courtroom.
Bowen Professor Theresa Beiner will moderate the debate, which is sponsored by the law school’s chapters of the Federalist Society, Lambda, and the ACLU. The debate is free and open to the public.
Christine Sun, a civil rights attorney, works on a wide range of constitutional issues in addition to leading the Southern Poverty Law Center’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) advocacy. She served as senior counsel for the ACLU’s successful challenge to Arkansas’s statutory ban on unmarried and same-sex couples from fostering and adopting children.
Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse is the founder and president of the Ruth Institute – a project of the National Organization for Marriage – which seeks to promote life-long married love to college students by creating an intellectual and social climate favorable to marriage.
