UALR Celebrates Student Research
Thursday, March 15, is the deadline for UALR students to register for this year’s Student Research and Creative Works Expo, a full day where undergraduates and graduates can display their research, scholarship, and creativity on April 16.
The expo will be held in Ledbetter Hall Rooms A, B, and C in the Donaghey Student Center, with undergraduates displaying posters explaining their research in the morning and graduate students doing so in the afternoon.
“The UALR Student Research and Creative Works Expo will offer an opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their research, scholarly, and creative endeavors in all disciplines,” said Dr. Patrick Pellicane, vice provost for research and dean of the Graduate School.
Awards will be presented to the best undergraduate projects in arts, engineering, health sciences, humanities, life sciences, professional studies, physical sciences, social sciences, and technology. Graduate award categories include engineering, health sciences, humanities, life sciences, professional studies, physical sciences, social sciences, and technology.
Top undergraduate projects in appropriate categories will be nominated for presentation in Washington, D.C., at the annual “Posters on the Hill” event organized by the Council on Undergraduate Research.
Applicable activities include, but are not limited to:
- Thesis and dissertation projects
- Senior theses
- Honors projects
- Independent study projects
- Course-related projects
“Activities may be recently completed or ongoing and may be collaborative or individual,” Pellicane said.
Poster display boards will be provided. Advance notice is required for students who want to submit projects in other formats such as performance or film clips. For more information and application forms, visit the Student Research Expo website.
Dr. Gaurav Kumar, assistant professor of accounting and chair of the research expo, can assist graduate students wishing to participate. Dr. Andrew Drummond, assistant professor of political science and vice chair of the expo, can assist undergraduates with their entries.
