Scott Gordon, outgoing president of the UALR Alumni Association Board of Directors, has received the Arkansas Medical Society’s 2012 Shuffield Award, the highest honor in the medical community for a non-phy­sician.

Gordon, who earned a masters of social work from UALR in 1977, was recognized for his community work outside his regular employment as executive vice president of Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The Shuffield Award is named in memory of Drs. Joe and Elvin Shuffield, a father and son physician team from Little Rock who devoted their lives to improving the quality of health care in this state.
