UALR Presents ‘Gruesome Playground Injuries’

UALR theatre majors Emily Wold of Little Rock and T.J. Medel of Jersey City, N.J., are staring in “Gruesome Playground Injuries,” the 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist play this weekend at Haislip Theatre in the UALR Center for Performing Arts.

Three performances of the play by Rajiv Joseph will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3; 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5. Admission is free.

Wold and Medel play Kayleen and Doug, soul-mates who meet as 8-year-olds in the school nurse’s office when Doug rides his bike off the school roof and Kayleen can’t stop throwing up. Over the course of the next 30 years, the lives of the made-for-each-other masochists continue to intersect.

The play is a crash course in growing up, getting hurt, and the healing power of love.
