UALR Food Drive Exceeds Goal

Students, faculty, and staff at UALR exceeded this year’s annual food drive goal by collecting 14,060 non-perishable items for the Arkansas Foodbank. The food drive campaign, called 2012 Reach 13,000, brought in more than 1,000 food items above the goal.

“The Arkansas Foodbank informed me that it weighed in over 6,000 pounds,” said Amber Standridge, a speech communications senior from Mount Ida.

“Because of the success of this food drive, UALR will be able to make a difference in the lives of many this holiday season.”

The Chancellor’s Leadership Corps (CLC) Scholars has spearheaded the food drive for the past two years. Standridge, the CLC senior supervisor, was chairman of the project.

Campus organizations competed with one another to pile up the food contributions. The top organizations were CLC scholars, African American Male Initiative, Pi Kappa Alpha, Chi Omega, Housing Activities Council, Alpha Kappa Alpha, EAST Scholars, the College of Engineering and Information Technology Scholars, Residential Assistance, and Kappa Sigma.

The top UALR departments were Testing Services, Audiology and Speech Pathology, Athletics, Nursing, TRiO, the Center for Applied Studies in Education, Educational Leadership, Health Services, Social Work, and IT Services.

All non-perishable items were donated to the Arkansas Foodbank and to UALR’s Staff Senate’s Helping Hands.
