Two scholars in the UALR Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology recently became the only two students from Arkansas institutions awarded national scholarships by the IEEE Power & Energy Society.

Kristopher Johnson and Geoffrey Lueken were both awarded the Power and Energy Society Scholarship, a national scholarship given to students pursuing a degree in electrical engineering and considering careers in electric power and energy engineering.

“The IEEE PES Scholarship Initiative Plus is a selective national program and quite an honor,” said Katie Young, assistant dean for undergraduate programs at the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology.

Johnson and Lueken will each receive $2,000 for two years and an additional $3,000 for a third year as long as they continue to meet the qualifications of the program.

According to the website, PES is the world’s largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, and the PES Scholarship Plus Initiative™ provides scholarships and real-world experience to undergraduates who are interested in power and energy engineering careers.
