Aspiring young writers invited to apply to summer camp
The Little Rock Writing Project at UALR invites aspiring writers to apply to its Young Writers Camp set for July 8-12 on the university’s campus.
The primary objective is to help spur participants’ growth as writers, according to Dr. Sally Crisp, director of the Little Rock Writing Project.
Crisp said the camp is for rising third through sixth graders and limited to just 15 applicants, so it is important that interested youth get their applications in early. She added there is a camp fee of $125, but a limited number of scholarships are also available.
Participants will write in a variety of genres, including poems, biographies, tall tales, and skits. Other activities include a joining in a class publication, creating mini-books, and beginning a writer’s notebook.
Interested parties should contact Ann Beck at 501.944.2174 or agbeck@ualr.edu for applications. All applications should be mailed by June 10 to Beck at the Department of Rhetoric & Writing, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University, Little Rock, AR 72204.
Deadline for submissions is June 18. Tuition is not required until the participant is notified about his or her acceptance, but the $125 camp fee must be received by July 1.
