Jazz and Juleps benefit set for May 21

The UALR and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology will commemorate Better Hearing and Speech Month at the fourth annual Jazz and Juleps benefit on Tuesday, May 21.

Proceeds from the event go to support the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology and the Loris Mayersohn Fullerton Student Scholarship fund. Tickets are $50 and are available by contacting Angela Elizandro of the UALR Office of Development at 501-683-7501 or ajelizandro@ualr.edu.

Fullerton, who helped organize the first Jazz and Juleps event in 2010, is an enthusiastic supporter of UALR and has worked tirelessly to raise $250,000 for student scholarships.

The fourth annual event will take place at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion at 1800 Center St. in Little Rock. Patrons will enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a live auction hosted by KTHV’s Craig O’Neill.

“Honoring Loris Mayersohn Fullerton with a newly named scholarship is in no way a large enough thank you for all she has done,” said Vice Chancellor for Development Bob Denman.

“Very few people have had the kind of impact on the lives of our students that Loris has,” agreed department chairman Dr. Tom Guyette.

The friendship between the Mayersohn family and the university dates back to the 1960s, according to UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson, who said he deeply appreciated the family’s continued tradition of providing excellent educational opportunities for so many UALR students.

The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology is a joint program between UALR and UAMS.
