UALR Chancellor Joel E. Anderson has announced the appointment of three interim vice chancellors. The appointments, effective July 1, follow the retirement of vice chancellors who leave the university at the end of June.

Logan Hampton, associate vice chancellor for student development and dean of students, will fill the interim position of vice chancellor for educational, student services, and student life, following the retirement of Dr. Charles Donaldson.

Joni Lee, associate vice chancellor for university advancement, will serve as interim vice chancellor for university advancement, following the retirement of Bill Walker.

Nathan Nolen, associate director of project management, will become interim vice chancellor for information technology services, following the retirement of Dr. Jeannie Winston.

Searches for the positions will begin in the fall semester, Anderson said.

Logan Hampton, who has a doctorate in higher education from UALR, received a master’s degree in student personnel services from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Arkansas Tech University. He also is a graduate of the Harvard Institute of Management and Leadership in Education. Before UALR, Hampton held positions at Texas A & M University, Texas Christian University, and the University of Central Arkansas.

After serving in numerous student services capacities at UALR since 1998, Hampton was appointed to his current position in 2011. He leads the student development and student life programs, including judicial affairs, housing, testing and student life research, counseling and career planning, Disability Resource Center, Donaghey Student Center, Campus Life, and Health Services. He also serves as contact administrator for dining services and bookstore operations.

Joni Lee, who came to UALR in 1987, has served in her current position since 1999, performing public and government relations functions. Before joining UALR, she worked as a staff member for the Science Information Liaison Information Office of the Arkansas General Assembly. Lee has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master of public administration degree from UALR.

In the area of government relations, Lee is liaison between campus departments and government officials at state and federal levels. She has been elected by the government relations representatives of the public universities of Arkansas to serve as their chair and coordinator during legislative sessions as well as between sessions. She also oversees university community outreach programs, including the Friday Fellows program, Shepherd Poverty Studies Program, University District, Children International, and the Office of Community Engagement.

Nathan Nolen came to UALR in 2007 after 10 years with Acxiom Corp. While at Acxiom, Nolen was a team leader and decision support analyst. He has a master’s degree in management information systems from UALR and a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Philander Smith College. He also is a certified Project Management Professional and has completed the Educause Institute Leadership Program.

Nolen was hired by UALR to manage the project management office for the central information technology division. In this capacity, he created and now manages the central IT software development team and assisted in the IT governance structure. He leads project oversight in the implementation of department-wide programs involving information technology.

Anderson noted that these three appointments were all strongly supported by persons within the three divisions as well as across campus.
