UALR team to participate in Race for the Cure

Once again, UALR will support the Arkansas affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure through its UALR Rock for the Cure team.

The race will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, in downtown Little Rock near the intersection of Broadway and Second streets.

UALR team captain Kim Tran, assistant director of undergraduate academic advising, encourages all students, faculty, staff, and family and friends of the university to join the team.

“We are forming our team and looking to make our impact on an important cause … breast cancer,” she said.

Team members are currently raising money by encouraging people to join the team or by soliciting donations that will go to support mammogram screenings and breast cancer research.

In Arkansas, there are 25 counties, or one out of every three, with no fixed mammography services. Obtaining a mammogram is the hardest for women in these areas, according to the Race for the Cure website.

Race registrations are available online. The cost to join the UALR Team is $26, or a donation can made at UALR Rock for the Cure.

Since 1992, the Komen Arkansas Race has distributed more than $11 million throughout the state, funding grants and educational programs which have provided support and information focused on early detection to thousands of Arkansas women and their families.
