Jason Baldwin, a former defendant in the controversial West Memphis Three case, will appear with Pam Hobbs, mother of murder victim Stevie Branch, for a documentary screening at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. A question and answer session with Baldwin will follow.

The UALR School of Mass Communication is hosting the free screening of West of Memphis at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Room 214 C of the UALR Donaghey Student Center Building.

West of Memphis is a 2012 documentary produced by Peter Jackson and Damien Echols and directed by Amy J. Berg. The film brings disturbing new information to the forefront as it examines the failure of the criminal justice system in a 20-year-old case that still haunts the American South.

It has been nominated for several major awards including one for best editing from the American Cinema Editors and best screenplay from the Writers Guild of America. Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelley Jr. were convicted of the killings of three 8-year-old boys in West Memphis, Ark., in 1994. Echols was sent to death row while Baldwin and Misskelley received life sentences.

In 2011, the three pled guilty and were released from prison using the Alford Plea.
