UALR History professor’s manuscript wins second award
Dr. Susanah Shaw Romney, a professor of history at UALR, has received the 2013 Hendricks Award for her forthcoming book, “New Netherland Connected: Intimate Networks and Atlantic Ties in Seventeenth-Century America.”
The award is granted annually to the best book or manuscript exploring the Dutch influence on North America prior to the American Revolution. The University of North Carolina Press will publish the book in April 2014.
Romney accepted the honor at the New Netherland Seminar in New York City, held Oct. 5. The seminar was supported by the Consul General for the Netherlands, Flanders House, and the New York Historical Society.
This is the second time Romney’s manuscript has received accolades; earlier this year Romney earned the 2013 Jamestown Prize by the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture.
