International Celebration Week highlights cultures across the globe
Each year, UALR observes International Celebration Week to promote awareness of national cultures and enhance cultural interactions between UALR students, faculty, staff, and the greater community.
Sponsored by the Office of Campus Life, the week of events from Nov. 18 through 21 is filled with the music and food of nations and cultures from across the globe and is designed to educate and entertain all who participate.
Schedule of events:
• Monday, Nov. 18
11 a.m. Donaghey Student Center (DSC) Ledbetter Rooms A and B: International Panel Discussion, “Middle East: Arab Spring Two Years On,” with reflections from UALR faculty and students. Refreshments precede talk at 10 a.m. Panel sponsored by UALR Middle Eastern Studies.
6 – 9 p.m. DSC Ledbetter Rooms A, B, and C: Students from around the world will experience a traditional Thanksgiving Celebration as they gather for a meal and an evening of fun and relationship building. Seating is limited. Participants encouraged to reserve tickets at the Office of Campus Life
• Tuesday, Nov. 19
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. DSC Ledbetter rooms A, B, and C: International Celebration Day highlights the week with a celebration of cultures. UALR Intercultural Communication students will present educational posters on communicating across cultures, and student groups will dance and entertain with a mixture of performances from around the world. Study abroad programs and other organizations will be featured as students share their international experience. Interactive displays, posters, music, and food will be showcased.
• Thursday, Nov. 21
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. DSC Leadership Lounge: Interfaith Dialogue Lunch. To make reservations for this event, visit the International Celebration Week website.
7 p.m. Housing Commons: UALR Housing will host International Night. The campus is invited to participate in international games and crafts.
