UALR Student Health Services fights back against flu outbreak
Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff flowed into the Student Health Services clinic, located on the ground floor of the UALR Donaghey Student Services Center, to receive vaccination against the flu on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 16.
The vaccine covers H1N1 as well as various other strains of influenza, and all students and benefits-eligible employees were eligible to receive the vaccine free of charge.
Student Health Services Director Marie Sandusky said her staff vaccinated 164 patients coming to the clinic and that most of the patients were students.
Health Services will also provide a vaccine clinic in the commons area for the residence hall students on Jan. 28, according to Sandusky.
Last week, Sandusky said about 200 doses of the flu vaccine were left and her staff will administer the vaccine until there is none left.
Several more weeks of flu season remain in Arkansas, according to state Department of Health officials, and at least 21 flu deaths have been confirmed to date.
