The Middle Eastern Studies Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a presentation by guest lecturer Dr. Ariel Ahram at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in UALR’s Donaghey Student Center, Ledbetter Room A.

The event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

Ahram will present a case study of the Mesopotamian Marshes and examine how deliberate environmental destruction became a weapon of war in Iraq, the effect it had on  the counterinsurgency, and what it could mean for peace in the Middle East.

Ahram is a professor for the Government and International Affairs Program at the School of Public & International Affairs at Virginia Tech University.

His research interests include Middle East politics, state formation and state failure, global security, politics of the developing world, and multi-method research techniques. Dr. Ahram has published work appearing in many scholarly journals and is a respected authority on current events in the Middle East.
