UALR’s Kappa Delta Sorority will host its fifth annual dodgeball tournament from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15, to raise funds for the prevention of child abuse.

The Shamrock Dodgeball Tournament will be held on courts 3 and 4 of the UALR Donaghey Fitness Center. The registration fee is $10 per person or $90 a team with a maximum of 10 players per team.

Registration for the tournament begins Monday, March 10, and continues through Wednesday, March 12, outside the mall area of the Donaghey Student Center at UALR.

On Thursday and Friday, March 13-14, teams may sign up in the Student Union Foyer.

A pancake fundraiser dinner is also planned from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in Ledbetter Room C of the DSC. Tickets are $3. In addition, $3 tickets are available for a lighter “stroll” tournament to be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 14, in the UALR Field House.

The events are part of a nationwide effort to raise funds to benefit local affiliates and chapters of Prevent Child Abuse America. Eighty percent of the proceeds will remain in Arkansas, benefitting the Children’s Protection Center, according Kappa Delta spokesperson Emily Bruner.

The remaining 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America, Kappa Delta’s national philanthropy, for nationwide public awareness programs.

Over the past five years the UALR chapter has raised $9,000 for the Children’s Protection Center and Prevent Child Abuse America, said Britani Dwyer, vice president of community service of Eta Sigma chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority at UALR.

Dwyer said the sorority hopes to raise $3,000 this year.
