The Arkansas Historical Association recently honored two researchers with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Sequoyah National Research Center.

Dr. Daniel F. Littlefield Jr., director, and the late Dr. James W. Parins, associate director of UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center, were honored for their lifetime achievements and contributions to the field of Arkansas history.

Their careers span over 40 years, researching Native American publishing, Native American removal, and Native American literature, as well as classroom teaching that helped inspire generations of scholars.

The awards were presented April 4, at the association’s annual conference in Washington, Ark.

Dr. Marylyn Parins accepted her late husband’s award on his behalf.

The Sequoyah National Research Center is dedicated to the collection and preservation of Native American expression. Located on the UALR campus in the University Plaza, the center has served as a Native American archive for more than 20 years.
