Chancellor’s Leadership Corps to hold first ever signing day May 1
Incoming members of the 2014-15 Chancellor’s Leadership Corps (CLC) will be honored during a signing day ceremony at UALR.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the Donaghey Student Center on the UALR campus.
“We always hear of star athletes who have signing days for colleges, but we rarely hear of academic or leadership signing days at colleges. We hope to change that with our first ever CLC Signing Day ceremony,” said CLC Coordinator Nick Steele.
Steele said the incoming CLC students are an outstanding group, with an average grade point of 3.7 and an average ACT score of 24.
This year’s CLC class comes to UALR from states as distant as Washington, Minnesota, Illinois, and Nevada and from the border states of Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Tennessee, as well as from Arkansas.
Students accepting the CLC scholarship can receive up to $8,000 per academic year.
The CLC is a comprehensive program designed to enhance the skills needed for assuming leadership positions on the UALR campus and beyond. Scholars develop leadership skills by facilitating campus-wide celebrations and participating in campus organizations.
Scholars are required to complete leadership courses and 15 hours of service learning during the fall and spring semesters. They must also live with other scholars in West Hall during their first year on campus.
