Edward M. Penick Sr., 92, a long-time UALR supporter and former chairman of the UALR Board of Visitors, died Saturday, June 14.

Penick had ties to the university going back to the days of his father, James H. Penick Sr., who served on the committee that helped transform the former junior college into a university, now UALR. Penick’s father also served on the Board of Trustees for what was then known as Little Rock University.

In recognition of his father’s contributions through the years, Penick established the James H. Penick Memorial Scholarship in the UALR College of Business in 1991. And, in 2013, the UALR Institute on Race and Ethnicity recognized his father as an honoree of the Arkansas Civil Rights Heritage Trail.

Ed Penick was a past chairman of the Ottenheimer Brothers Foundation, which has also supported the university over many years.

A graduate of the University of Arkansas and its School of Law, Ed Penick was the retired chief executive officer and chairman of Worthen Bank.

A funeral service was held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on June 17 with burial with military honors at Mount Holly Cemetery.
