A new exhibition, Arkansas Homemakers, recently opened during Second Friday Art Night and will be displayed through Sept. 27 at the UALR Arkansas Studies Institute in the Butler Center underground gallery.

The exhibit celebrates 100 years of the Arkansas Homemakers and Home Demonstration Clubs and includes new paintings by Katherine Strause, the first artist-in-residence in representational painting at UALR and current chair and associate professor of art at Henderson State University.

Strause created these paintings with the support of the Polly Wood Crews Sholarship, awarded by the Arkansas State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Also included in the exhibit are excerpts of A Splendid Piece of Work: 100 Years of Arkansas’s Home Demonstration and Extension Homemakers Clubs by Elizabeth Griffin Hill, photographs from the Arkansas History Commission, and scrapbooks from the Arkansas Cooperative Extension.
