Sarah Howard Jenkins, Charles Baum Distinguished Professor at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law, has been elected to the Executive Committee of the American Society of Comparative Law.

The committee is the governing body of the ASCL, the leading organization promoting the comparative study of law and conflict of laws between national and transnational jurisdictions and critically examining important legal issues from a comparative perspective.

“While I am pleased to be elected and to have this opportunity, this is an honor that is being bestowed on Bowen as an institution; it could not have been achieved alone,” said Jenkins.

“My colleagues, staff, and students at the law school support our work with the ASCL and in the field of comparative law.”

Jenkins has published extensively on commercial law and comparative law issues and organized several symposia of distinguished domestic scholars on significant legal issues.

She most recently served with Professor Ken Gallant, a fellow Bowen professor, as co-chairs of the 2013 Annual Meeting for the ASCL.

“This is a great honor both for Professor Jenkins and for the law school,” Bowen School Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz said.

“Professor Jenkins is a wonderful and renowned scholar and teacher. She is typical of the dedicated legal educators who make up the Bowen faculty.”

In June, Professor Jenkins completed her Fulbright Scholar Award Grant, teaching International Business Law and presenting public lectures on U.S. domestic contract and commercial law with the economics and business administration faculty at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
