Cooperative Education Program hosts annual career fair Oct. 15

The Cooperative Education Program at UALR will host a career fair at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Ledbetter rooms A, B, and C of the Donaghey Student Center. Register for the fair by visiting ualr.edu/co-op.

UALR’s Cooperative Education Program, established at UALR in 1993, provides students with relevant work experience, earned income in a professional work-integrated learning environment, and academic credit.

The program works with local companies to place students so they may apply the skills learned in the classroom.

UALR student Syed Bilal NadeemOne such student is Syed Bilal Nadeem, who is pursuing a master of science degree in information quality. He attended the career fair last spring and landed an internship with the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas this past summer.

He said the internship helped him enhance his data analysis, prediction and collection skills and he “saved money and bought a car.”

Nadeem will return to the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas as an intern in the summer of 2015, and he hopes to implement a model for using historical water flow and other important parameters like temperature and density of water to predict the following day’s flow and record it in an Oracle database.

Over 92 percent of UALR Co-op graduates indicated that their experience gave them an advantage in the job market, according to program officials.
