International scholar visits UALR, discusses democratic transitions in Tunisia and Libya

An assistant professor of international relations at the University of Groningen in Groningen, Netherlands, will address how Libya and Tunisia are dealing with post-conflict transitions following revolution and regime change three years ago.

Dr. Christopher Lamont’s presentation on Democratic Transitions in Tunisia and Libya: Divergent Trajectories of Political Change in North Africa will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in meeting room D of UALR’s Donaghey Student Center.

The presentation takes place four days after Tunisians go to the polls for National Assembly elections.

Lamont’s expertise includes transitional justice and international human rights. He has been invited to give presentations all over the world in places such as Osaka, Japan; Tunis, Tunisia; Banda Aceh, Indonesia; Zagreb, Croatia; and Sydney, Australia. He has also received numerous grants and fellowships.
