The process of qualifying has placed UALR students among the top 32 college and university teams in the country, according to Assistant Professor of Philosophy Allison Merrick, faculty advisor of the UALR Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Team.

ETHICS-FLYER 400The ethics bowl format encourages engagement in serious moral discourse and discusses cases drawn from current events in the areas of politics, environmental concerns, professional worries, and issues arising in the college classroom.

Each year, teams from colleges and universities across the country compete at regional bowls, and winners advance to the finals where only one team is chosen as the winner. Emphasis is on reasoning and the ability to engage in moral discourse rather than on persuasion.

The 19th Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl will take place at the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics’ Annual Meeting on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015.
