Night of Remembrance will mark 23rd anniversary of Rwandan genocide
The Rwandan Student Organization at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock will hold a night of remembrance on Tuesday, April 11, for the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi.
The genocide killed around 800,000 people in just 100 days from April 7 to mid-July 1994. The violence, led by the Hutu majority tribe, was an attempt to wipe out the Tutsi tribe and its Hutu allies. The slaughter stripped the country of its leaders, replacing them with orphans, widows, disease, and poverty.
Rwandan students from UA Little Rock and Americans who have visited Rwanda will lead a panel discussion commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the genocide beginning at 6 p.m. in Donaghey Student Center Ledbetter Hall Room 214A.
The event is free and open to the public.
