Expo Projects Nominated for National Competition
Biology major Jill Castleberry of England and history major Ivy Renfro of Little Rock will represent UALR at the Posters on the Hill competition in Washington, D.C. later this year. The two were nominated following UALR’s Undergraduate Research Expo.
The competition will result in a student being selected by the Council on Undergraduate Research to present at the national group’s symposium in Washington.
Castleberry’s research involves the search for a vaccine to guard against the effects of anthrax toxins. Renfro presented her research on the changing images of Anne Frank.
UALR’s Undergraduate Research Committee also recognized research by Ashley Scott of Little Rock. Scott, a triple major, earned an honorable mention at the expo. Scott’s study of glycoconjugates effect on human macrophage viability during exposure to bacillus cereus spores recently earned her a summer research fellowship from the American Society of Chemistry.
Joshua Blackstock, a geology major from Pine Bluff, received an honorable mention for his research on land use trains and adverse effects to water quality in the Buffalo National River watershed.
