NFL Great to Lecture Thursday
UALR’s Office of Campus Life kicks off its initiative on The Emerging M.A.N. (Men of Action Network) program series with an appearance by former NFL great Keith Jackson at noon Thursday, Jan. 29, in Donaghey Student Center rooms A and B. Refreshments will be served.
Jackson, a native of Little Rock, played tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Miami Dolphins, and the Green Bay Packers. He also is the founder of P.A.R.K – Positive Attitude Reaching Kids – an outreach organization he established in his hometown to help high-risk students complete high school and attend college.
The Emerging M.A.N. Program Series seeks to create a culture of communication and relationship among college men by addressing the issues they face including identity development, psychological and physical health, and shifting gender roles. The objectives of the Emerging M.A.N. are based on the mission of the American College Personnel Association’s Standing Committee for Men:
- To promote awareness of men’s issues among both men and women.
- To supportively challenge men on campus to develop their full potential in spite of socially constructed gender role limitations.
- To encourage and support the creation and dissemination of knowledge about men’s development.
- To actively welcome men and allies who are just beginning to explore new male roles.
