UALR Hosts College Goal Sunday at Bryant High Feb. 22
UALR invites college-bound students and their parents to a College Goal Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Bryant High School to learn about federal financial aid applications and find help to complete the forms.
Arkansas’ College Goal Sunday will take place at 37 sites throughout the state and conclude activities during Say Go College Week, a statewide effort to help more Arkansas students pursue an education beyond high school, Feb. 16 to 22.
At the Bryant High event, financial aid administrators and volunteers will provide free assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
Families who would like assistance filling out the federal form should bring the following to the event:
- PIN for student and a parent from www.pin.ed.gov
- Latest tax information for student and parents
- 2008 W-2 Forms
- Social Security numbers
- Proof of Social Security benefits received in 2008
- Amounts of untaxed income in 2008
- Amounts of child support received or paid in 2008
- Checking and savings account balances
- Knowledge of worth of family assets (other than home)
- Latest tax information for student and parents
“Participants will walk away from the event with a completed financial aid application and the satisfaction of knowing they have tackled a big step in preparing for college,” said Tammy Harrison, director of admissions and financial aid at UALR. “Our goal for College Goal Sunday is to ensure that the process of applying for financial aid is not an obstacle that would keep anyone from pursuing a college education.”
In 2008, the second year for College Goal Sunday in Arkansas, more than 1,100 families participated, Harrison said.
“We want Arkansas families to know about financial aid opportunities and it’s definitely worth the effort to complete the FAFSA,” she said.
