Historical Society to Honor Bowen Alums
The Arkansas Supreme Court Historical Society will recognize the service of two graduates of the William H. Bowen School of Law at its annual dinner to honor all living former state Supreme Court justices.
The dinner will be held Sept. 24 at the Governor’s Mansion. Dale Bumpers will be the keynote speaker. Tickets to the event are $125 per person.
Among those justices honored will be W.H. “Dub” Arnold, 1963, who served on the court from 1997 to 2003, and Betty Dickey, 1985, who served as associate justice from 2005-2006 and as chief justice in 2004.
“Justices Arnold and Dickey exemplify lives of public service,” said Dean John DiPippa. “Their professionalism on the bench set an example for Arkansas’ legal system that will continue well into the future.”
Before joining the Supreme Court, Arnold served six years as Circuit Court Chancery Judge for the Eighth District. In 1996, he was elected to succeed retiring Chief Justice Jack Holt Jr. In 2000, Arnold was re-elected to that position.
Dickey replaced Arnold as the Court’s chief justice in 2004, becoming the first woman in the state to hold that post. Before her appointment to the court, she was Gov. Mike Huckabee’s chief legal counsel.
