Bowen Student Elected to National Delta Theta Phi Supreme Senate
Shaharazad McDowell, a second-year student in the William H. Bowen School of Law, has been elected to one of two student positions on the national Delta Theta Phi (DTP) Supreme Senate.
The vice dean of UALR’s McClellan Senate of DTP, McDowell is a native of Law Cruces, N.M., and earned undergraduate degrees in political science and communication from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
During the 2009 biannual DTP convention in Phoenix, McDowell won the Thomas Competition, an oral advocacy contest for student members of the organization.
In addition, the McClellan Senate was one of two groups honored as the Outstanding Senate in the Nation and earned the Lohnes Award for the largest percentage increase for yearly membership. Graduate Ava Franks was chosen Outstanding Member in the Region.
Delta Theta Phi provides a forum for students, lawyers, and other members to network, exchange ideas and knowledge, and create lifelong professional affiliations and personal friendships. The organization encourages in its members personal integrity; diligence; candor and trust; individual responsibility, respect for law, rights, and property of others; and the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct in the study, practice, and teaching of the law.
The McClellan Senate is one of the oldest chapters of DTP in the United States. The group will hold its annual rush period Sept. 14-18.
