Professor Scott Laderman, author of “Tours of Vietnam: War, Travel Guides, and Memory” published this year, will present a lecture “Approaching War: Hollywood and Vietnam 1929-1964” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in the Donaghey Student Center’s Room D.

The talk, part of the Cooper Honors Program in English Lecture Series, is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow the lecture.

An American studies and history specialist who teaches at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Laderman also is co-editor with Edwin A. Martini of “Vietnam and ‘Vietnam’ Since 1975: Transnational Legacies of the Second Indochina War,” under contract with the Duke University Press.

Drawing on rare prints of early motion pictures, as well as numerous archival documents, Laderman’s talk will spotlight the Indochinese conflict that screened in the United States decades before Hollywood, in the 1970s and 1980s, began to reimage the war in American memory, perhaps forever.
