A UALR graduate student has received a scholarship from the Little Rock chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, an organization dedicated to the advancement of black public leadership in local and state government.

Brandon Smith of Little Rock was recognized for his distinction during the NFBPA “Marks of Excellence” ceremony held March 22, at the Clinton Presidential Center.

Smith is a graduate assistant in the Master of Public Administration program and expects to graduate in fall 2014.

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in civic or community organizations, hold a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and have submitted a 500-word essay about short- and long-term goals as they relate to public service.

“His appointment as a graduate assistant, which is awarded competitively, testifies to Brandon’s excellent academic and leadership qualities,” said Hunter Bacot, director of UALR’s Institute of Government and interim coordinator of the MPA Program.

“Not only is Mr. Smith a wonderful person, he possesses all the other intangibles that make him one of the best prepared students emerging from our program.”

“It felt great to receive the award,” said Smith. “I am really appreciative of the recognition from the National Forum for Black Public Administrators and East Harding Construction Company.”​
