Instructor’s script wins award, lands spot at Little Rock Film Festival
An instructor of literature in UALR’s Department of English recently won first place in the 2014 Ozark Foothills Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.
Frank Thurmond received the first-place award for his story “The Spymaster” during a ceremony at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., where he is the visiting writer in residence and teaches a Fiction Writing workshop.
“The Spymaster” has been accepted by the Little Rock Film Festival for screening in May. Thurmond has also written the story as a novella that will be published later this year.
Another short film written and produced by Thurmond and directed by UALR student filmmaker and English major Zach Roberson was also screened at the Ozark Foothills Film Festival.
The short film titled “Reconciliation” is an adaptation of Thurmond’s recent memoir “Before I Sleep,” published by Et Alia Press of Little Rock.
