College of Business endows over $2 million following challenge match

The College of Business announced this week the George W. Donaghey Foundation Challenge Match is complete, as more than $500,000 in cash and pledges have poured into the college from donors.

The match campaign, which ended in June, brings the total balance of the Stephen Harrow Smith Dean of Business endowment to more than $2 million. The Donaghey Foundation had pledged to match any donation up to $500,000 throughout the three-year campaign.College of Business

The funds will support study abroad, business competitions, career planning and placement, and other real-world applications for UALR business students.

The endowment is an important investment by stakeholders in the future business leaders of central Arkansas, according to Pete Yuan, chairman of the College of Business Advisory Council.

Yuan said the match was completed thanks to the generosity of the Donaghey trustees, the estate of Harrow Smith, the College of Business Advisory Council and many additional donors including faculty and staff from the UALR College of Business.

Donaghey Foundation Trustee J. French Hill, friend and financial advisor to the Harrow Smith Family, said he was “thrilled” to realize the UALR College of Business had met the Donaghey Challenge to endow the Stephen Harrow Smith deanship.

“You can rest assured that Harrow would be touched by the hard work and excellence exhibited in this endeavor by the faculty, staff and students of the UALR College of Business,” said Hill.

“He believed UALR’s work in educating the next generation of entrepreneurs and managers essential to our free enterprise system.”
