Award-winning New York Times science reporter Benedict Carey will speak about what science can teach us about learning from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 7, in the Student Services Center, Room 104, on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus.

Carey’s talk will be based on his latest book, “How We Learn: The Surprising Truth about When, Where, and Why it Happens.” The book and lecture will encourage faculty to think in a fresh way about how learning occurs.

The keynote will be followed by a luncheon in the Bailey Alumni Center from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., where attendees can meet Carey and ask questions.

His reporting focuses on neuroscience, psychiatry and neurology, as well as everyday psychology.

Carey’s other books include “Island of the Unknowns” and “Poison Most Vial,” a murder mystery involving forensic toxicology. He won a University of Missouri Lifestyle Award in 2002 for an article on the health effects of drinking eight glasses of water per day.
