UALR participates in U.S. Department of Education-funded study

UALR’s College of Education and Health Professions has been named a partner in a national study funded by the U.S. Department of Education aimed at transforming K-12 and higher education through innovative technology and teaching methods.

The university is one of seven regional higher education institutions selected to partner with Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala., now in its second year of an initiative known as CORE, or Collaborative Regional Education.

UALR and the other partner universities will help expand the CORE model and implement a rigorous research study of approximately 40 classrooms in 8th through 12th grades across the nation.

The work is supported through a $12 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s highly competitive Investing in Innovation program.

The UALR faculty team includes Judith A. Hayn, Karina Clemmons, and Kent Layton from the Teacher Education Department and Christopher Mong from the Educational Leadership Department.

Other universities partnering in the initiative include Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, Savannah State University in Georgia, Southeast Missouri State University in Missouri, Tarleton State University in Texas, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in North Carolina and West Texas A&M University in Texas.
