Susan Edwards, an alumna of UALR’s graduate program in the College of Education, has been named a SMART Exemplary Educator by SMART Technologies, an industry pioneer and market-segment leader in easy-to-use interactive whiteboards and other group collaboration tools.
Edwards is a teacher at Pulaski Academy, which is one of the company’s “Showcase Schools.” To qualify for the award, Edwards submitted a video of herself teaching a class using a SMART Interactive White Board with a lesson she developed on her own.
Arkansas students in 24 schools participating in a UALR-based effort to improve math, science, and English excellence generated a 41.9 percent increase in Advance Placement math, science, and English scores of 3, 4,or 5, Gov. Mike Beebe announced Monday.

Dr. Rose Berry, a UALR emeritus professor of education whose early use of technology comforted a generation of latch-key children in central Arkansas and influenced hundreds of elementary school teachers, died Thursday at age 93.
They are painting, playing music, acting, and creating — this week at the historic Dunbar Middle School. They are gifted Arkansas children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade learning and creating in a nationally honored UALR enrichment program celebrating its 30th year this summer.
Dr. Angela Sewall, dean of UALR’s College of Education, discussed “Educational Reform: Expanding Arkansas’ Opportunity to Learn” at a panel discussion at the Arkansas Citizens First Congress’ Legislative Convention June 25-27.
Two children’s books by Gaynell R. Jamison, a graduate of UALR’s College of Education Reading Recovery program, have been selected for publication by the Reading Recovery Council of North America in a national contest to seek reading books for the nation’s elementary classrooms.
