Alum Establishes Kappa Sigma Excellence Award

Ben Hardy Jr. of Mentone, Ala., has established an annual award for members of the Theta Eta chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at UALR.  Hardy made a gift of $5,000 to establish the Ben Hardy Jr. Kappa Sigma Excellence Award.

Dwane Treat of Searcy, the 33rd-degree sovereign grand inspector general in Arkansas for the Scottish Rite, presented a $10,000 gift to UALR recently for the Beth B. Eaton Scottish Rite Language and Literacy Center.

New UALR Scholarship Honors Contractor, Mayor

A new scholarship has been established at UALR honoring the legacy of construction contractor and former mayor Martin Borchert. Jim Russenberger, Borchert’s business partner when they founded ASCO Hardware, endowed the new UALR Martin Borchert Construction Management Scholarship with a $15,000 gift.

New Life Returns to ‘Deurbanized’ Campus Corner

No sooner did the bulldozers and graders retreat than wildlife began returning to the 4.3 acre park being constructed on the southeast corner of the campus. A pair of killdeer birds set up housekeeping on a rolling hill behind the Office of Communications building.  At least four eggs were in the couple’s nest.
