Mary Katherine Parson, a 2003 graduate of the master’s of secondary education program at UALR’s College of Education, is the 2010 Teacher of the Year at the Little Rock School District.
Dr. James J. Vander Putten, associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education, will present his research paper, “The Sociology of Academic Professionals: Historical Analysis of the Influences of Faculty Social Origins,” at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference in Denver on Saturday, May 1.

Gov. Mike Beebe announced Monday the names of eight more Arkansas high schools selected to participate in the UALR-based Arkansas Advanced Initiative for Math and Sciences (AAIMS), the $13.2 million effort sponsored by the National Math and Science Initiative to increase participation and scores in Advance Placement classes.
Penn State Professor Emeritus Dr. Mary Ellen Weimer will present a workshop at UALR Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19, on “Growing Teachers and Promoting Learning.”

Dr. T. Gregory Barrett, associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, is back stateside this week following a 10-day tour of South Africa as part of a People-to-People Ambassador program for educational researchers.
A Board of Examiners Team from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education is visiting the UALR campus this week to evaluate the College of Education, and Dean Angela Maynard Sewall said she believes they will find it on the cutting edge.
A year after 10 Arkansas schools joined a UALR-based program to implement the National Math and Science Initiative, participating students posted a 30 percent increase in Advance Placement math, science, and English scores in the upper percentiles of 3 to 5.
