Egypt Panel Rescheduled for Noon Friday

UALR professors with strong ties to Egypt and the Middle East will comment on what the future may hold for the country and its effect on the U.S. in a panel discussion at noon Friday, Feb. 25.

The event, postponed on Feb. 4 because of winter weather, is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Middle Eastern Studies Program.

Panel Discusses Egypt’s Future

Note: Due to inclement weather, the panel discussion on the future of Egypt will be postponed until further notice.

UALR professors with strong ties to the Middle East will discuss what the future may hold for Egypt and how the turmoil might affect the United States.

The panel discussion will be held in the Student Government Association Lounge on the second floor of the Donaghey Student Center at noon Friday, Feb. 4.

The Morning After: UALR Politicos Look Ahead

The votes have been counted — or most of them — and the results are in: the Republicans have gained control of the House and the
Democrats have lost a few seats, but still have control of the Senate, and President Obama is still in the White House.

What’s next? Two UALR political science professors — one that leans Republican, the other Democrat — were asked what they expected to see with the 111th Congress and a White House sharing responsibility for government policy.

Food, Fun on Tap at International Student Mixer

American and international students are invited to the UALR International Mixer at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, to meet and greet each other in a  social venue.

“We will be signing up students interested in joining a new UALR International Student Association, which is open to all UALR students,” said Dr. Jacek Lubecki, associate professor of political science and sponsor of the student association. “We will also be holding elections for student officers. All UALR students and faculty are welcome to attend.”

Refreshments and Middle Eastern food will be served free of charge. Students should RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 13, to help with estimates of food needs.

“But if folks don’t reserve in time, that doesn’t mean they cannot attend,” Lubecki said.

The event is hosted by the Office of International Services, the International Studies Program, and the Middle Eastern Studies Program.

UALR Hosts United Nations Day Conference

Students from five area high schools will participate in UALR’s International Simulations Association’s United Nations Day Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Donaghey Student Center, offering seminars on topics that include “Model Arab League,” “Model United Nations,” and “International Peacekeeping.”
