MSIQ Student Collaborates on International Data Quality Report
Wendell Scott Dismute, a student in the UALR Master of Science in Information Quality program, worked with the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ) to survey companies around the world on the governance of their data and information assets.
Elizabeth Pierce, a professor in the information science department of UALR’s Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology, said the report will provide the basis of Dismute’s thesis on trends in organizational data quality as well as a springboard for the program to conduct more surveys through the IAIDQ and its membership.
“The IAIDQ has said they have other research they’d like us to help them with,” Pierce said, “and it’s an opportunity for us to regularly publish reports on our industry and make a stronger name for the program here at UALR.”
The report, which has been published on-line as an “industry white paper,” was designed to find out more information about the activities that businesses are pursuing as a part of the information and data quality assurance efforts. According to the IAIDQ, “By investigating how organizations across the world are defining and implementing information and data governance processes, we hope to provide a map of the existing landscape that (companies) can draw upon as a guide as well as establishing a baseline for future comparisons.”
IAIDQ was chartered in 2004 as a professional association for those interested in improving business effectiveness through the use of quality data and information. In addition to the on-line publication, the report will be discussed in an upcoming webinar.
