UA Little Rock to Host Alchemy7 Exhibition
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Gallery will host the Alchemy7: Enamelist Society Juried Exhibition from July 22 to Sept. 6 in the Windgate Center of Art + Design.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the Brad Cushman Gallery in the Windgate Center.
Alchemy7 is the 19th Biennial International Juried Enamel Exhibition and 15th International Juried Student Enamel Exhibition, sponsored by the Enamelist Society, which highlight the best in contemporary enamels produced in the last two years. The International Juried Exhibition showcases the work of enamelists that demonstrate aesthetic and technical expertise. The Student Exhibition features the work of students in accredited degree programs throughout the world.
The term alchemy refers to a seemingly magical power of transmutation as well as the ancient chemical philosophy of turning base metal into gold or silver, which can apply to enamel as it is magically transformed by heat.
In July, the UA Little Rock School of Art and Design will host the biennial Enamelist Society Conference. The Enamelist Society, Inc. is a volunteer arts organization that was founded in 1987 for the purpose of promoting the art and medium of enameling. It brings together jewelers, metalsmiths, enamelists, enthusiasts, galleries, and artists from all over the world to gain and share knowledge and advance the craft of enameling.
In coordination with the conference, a special series of exhibitions will be on display in the Windgate Center and free and open to the public from July 22-31. The exhibitions include:
- “Champlevé Today: A Look at Contemporary Champlevé Enamels” in the Ann Maners and Alex Pappas Gallery
- “Enamels from the Collection of Dr. Stephen A. Martin” in the South Gallery and North Gallery
- “Embodiment of Dreams: An Enamel Response to the Collection of Dr. Stephen A. Martin” in the Focus Gallery
All UA Little Rock galleries are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on weekends. The galleries are closed on university holidays.
