Dr. Neveen Shafeek Amin is an associate professor of sociology at the School of Human Inquiry at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She also served as the coordinator of the Middle Eastern Studies Program from 2020-2022. Dr. Shafeek Amin received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin.
She holds core research interests in health disparities, migration, acculturation/assimilation, Middle Eastern immigrants, mental health, health care utilization, sleep & health, gender & health, race/ethnicity, food insecurity & health, religion & education, and quantitative research methods.
Dr. Shafeek Amin’s research has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals such as Ethnicity and Health Journal, Journal of Child and Family Studies, the International Journal of Sociology, Journal of Family and Community Health, and International Social Science Review.
A recipient of numerous research and teaching awards, her pedagogical techniques involve online and face-to-face courses. She teaches courses in Sociology of Health and Illness, Immigrant Experiences in the United States, Research Methods, Social Statistics, Senior Capstone Seminar, and Introduction to Sociology.
